Thank you Anastasia! I’ve just found your newsletter and I was nodding along vigorously the whole way because it reminded me so much of my childhood. My mum taught me to eat everything with sour cream, especially pancakes, and my auntie makes the best Kompot and pickled tomatoes and I love to make proper Ukrainian borscht and golubtsi in the colder months (I’m in Australia too!). Can’t wait to read and learn more :)
Oh I’m so glad! Very excited to share more. I’m also very happy to hear about your love of making borscht and golubtsi in winter time here as do I - in fact I’m looking forward to the cooler days do exactly that. Your family cooking and recipes sound divine, wholesome and nurturing AND a family of great cooks.

I forgot about the baking soda and vinegar trick.
I started using whey and it was a super yummy substitute.
Thank you for the memories. I loved my MIL's oladi. (I never spelled it out before, only spoke, so it looks so weird!)
Happy this post reminded you about the vinegar trick! I do that in all the recipes now that require the bicarb soda.
Whey is an excellent choice and I’m so happy to read your kind comment - thank you for sharing!
